SUPPORTING CASWELL FOREVER!

FRIENDS OF CASWELL ENDOWMENT ESTABLISHED AT THE NC BAPTIST FOUNDATION

A new opportunity has been created for friends of Caswell to support the ministry of the North Carolina Baptist Assembly. It is an endowment managed by the NC Baptist Foundation. The annual income from gifts given to the endowment supports Caswell in perpetuity.

Two primary individuals instrumental in the creation of the endowment were Annie Knotts Hoyle and Alan Bell.

Annie Knotts Hoyle passed away several years ago, but not without making plans in her estate to support Caswell. A retired university educator, Mrs. Hoyle was passionate about Caswell’s Christian impact on youth through its summer programs. When she began planning her estate with a member of the Foundation staff, Caswell was her top priority. A lifelong Baptist, she was determined to continue her support of Caswell after her lifetime. Each year, her estate makes an annual gift of several thousand dollars which can be used to support Caswell’s programs and campus. Mrs. Hoyle is remembered as a gentle, gracious, and generous lady who is as much a part of the work of Caswell today as she ever was during her lifetime.

Alan Bell passed away in June, 2006. He had been connected to Caswell for many years attending conferences and serving as a chaperone and sponsor for the youth group from his church. He and his parents, R.G. and Sallie Bell, were also benefactors of Caswell and provided most of the material and substantial financial resources that made reconstruction of the fishing pier possible after it was severely damaged, an uninsured loss, during Hurricane Floyd. Alan continued that legacy of support until his death making sure through his estate planning with the NCBF staff that support would continue after his death. A gracious, generous, and humble contributor he never asked for, nor accepted recognition for his support.

The original concept governing the use of proceeds from the growth of the endowment stated that no funds were to be used until it exceeded $100,000. During the first two years it has grown to over $330,000. Now one half of the generated income may be used by Caswell while the remainder contributes to the growth of the endowment.

Many of you know how Caswell has grown and improved over the past 25 years. It has been an unprecedented time of development. It could not have happened had it not been for the dedication of volunteers and generous "Friends of Caswell". We have been so blessed.

We honor the foresight of Dr. M.A. Huggins and the officers of the Baptist State Convention who purchased this 288 acre site from the federal government in 1949 for $86,000. We pledge to use the proceeds of the endowment wisely and prayerfully under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Should you wish to make a contribution, you can be confident that this is our guiding principal.

You may make a contribution to the endowment at any time you wish. Also, the NC Baptist Foundation staff will be glad to assist you with estate planning to support the ministry of Caswell, forever.
